Style Refresh: New in my Wardrobe.

You know that feeling when the new year hits and suddenly you’re itching to refresh your whole wardrobe? That’s totally me right now! I’ve started making this my little January tradition – getting all excited about updating my closet for spring and summer.

January is basically shopping heaven for me! In addition to setting up my New Year’s resolutions, I know it is prime time to score amazing deals. My favorite luxury brands and outlets are practically clearing their racks for their fresh-off-the-runway collections. And honestly, what better way to kick off the year than by snagging those pieces you’ve been eyeing since Fashion Week?

So, trust me, I went all in this year! And I know how privileged I sound right now. First up was the big closet clean-out (we’ve all been there, right?). I made my “goodbye for now” pile of clothes that either don’t fit anymore, aren’t really “me” these days, or are just adding to that closet chaos we all struggle with. Then I got super practical and listed out all the trusty basics I already have – you know, the real workhorses of the wardrobe.

Next came my favorite part: Reading up on what my favorite fashion columnist are writing about fashion in Vogue, WashingtonPost, and The Cut. I mean, who doesn’t love a good style inspo session? As someone who lives for fashion, I totally geek out seeing what other style-obsessed people are loving right now. It’s like getting the inside scoop from your most fashionable friends!

Supporting Recovery Efforts of LA Fire Disaster

Hey, before we dive into fashion talk, I need to take a moment to address something really important. Los Angeles is facing devastating fires right now, with so many communities affected. My heart absolutely breaks for everyone whose lives have been turned upside down by this disaster. If you’re wondering how to help (I know I was), I’ve pulled together a link to some trusted organizations that are doing crucial work on the ground right now.

I’m really hoping this is the last bit of tough news we have to face this year – keeping my fingers tightly crossed for everyone in LA and surrounding areas. If you’re able to help in any way, even by just spreading awareness, every bit makes a difference during times like these.

Style Refresh

You’ve heard it a million times (because it’s absolutely true) – nothing transforms your entire vibe quite like the perfect wardrobe refresh. But let’s be real: curating those head-turning pieces that’ll have everyone asking “where did you get that?” isn’t just a quick add-to-cart situation.

I’ve been carefully collecting pieces to build my wardrobe and my strategy? Curate early in the year, before work stress turns my brain to fashion mush and I start panic-buying things I’ll regret by August. The goal was simple: build a wardrobe that makes me feel like the main character every single day. Trust me, there’s something incredibly powerful about facing your closet in January and thinking, “Yes, this is exactly who I want to be this year!”

Starting with the Basics

One of my first style rules when purchasing fashion items is making sure I get my basics right. You know, those ride-or-die pieces that make getting dressed a breeze! These three I consider my must-have; the perfect denim (obviously), a crisp collar shirt that means business, and sneakers that can take me from shopping runs to brunch.

But this past year, it was difficult to commit to a denim pant (I wanted a wide-leg denim), I didn’t have much time on my hands (between my crazy schedule and that eternal online shopping rabbit hole) we’ve all been there! I also didn’t want some fast-fashion alternatives, some corners just aren’t worth cutting! So, when I found some good fitting pair on Agolde I knew I had to get one and they fit just as great as they look.

Let’s talk about those game-changing pieces – you know, the ones that suddenly make your entire wardrobe make sense! I had one of those “aha!” moments when I realized what was missing from my style equation: those perfect throw-on-and-go blouses and (don’t judge me) yet another black bag – but hear me out!

I know what you’re thinking: “Another black bag? Really?” But despite having enough black bags that could work, none of them quite nailed that effortless, grab-and-go vibe I was craving. You know one that go with those perfectly curated looks where everything looks so elegantly simple? That’s the energy I was after! After doing some serious closet soul-searching, I finally pulled the trigger on some pieces that I swear were the missing puzzle pieces my wardrobe has been screaming for.

Something Different and Something Familiar

Because what’s fashion without a little adventure? Sure, I love my comfort-zone pieces as much as the next girl, but there’s something absolutely thrilling about adding some spice to your wardrobe! You know those pieces that make you pause and think, “OK, but how am I going to work this into my life?” Those are often the ones that end up being total game-changers! And that was my thought process when purchasing the light-flow chiffon top from Dries, the one-shoulder ribbed Jersey from Simkhai, and the stinegoya midi dress.

On the other hand, I also leaned into purchasing items that spoke to my roots as a fashion writer, prints- with the Emporio Sirenuse print set. It was like reuniting with an old friend.

Let’s have a little fashion confession moment: while I love to think of myself as this totally independent style maven who’s above the trend cycle (don’t we all?), the truth is, some trends are just too good to resist! They have this sneaky way of sliding into your Instagram feed, popping up on your favorite street style stars, and suddenly – boom! – they’re living rent-free in your head.

This year, I finally surrendered to a couple of pieces that had been haunting my fashion dreams (you know the ones – they show up in your online cart at 2 AM?). That absolutely iconic Y/Project asymmetrical skirt? Guilty as charged! And let’s talk about those Adidas Sambas – I mean, who hasn’t fallen head over heels for these cool-girl kicks? Sometimes you just have to admit defeat and join the club, especially when the trend feels this right!
