In today’s post, I will share some favourite style lessons about turtle neck clothing and something I have learned about myself this year. Today’s post is the start of a short holiday fashion writing series which I will attempt to update leading up to Christmas and will end with my annual Christmas lookbook.
Styling Turtle Neck Dresses
There are a few things I got to learn about my style this year, and one of them I have always known is “turtle neck outfits is synonymous to sophistication.” For young women looking to present themselves in a way that is put together and commanding, defaulting to turtle neck in blouses or dresses will help you achieve that.
So how did the turtle neck become a fashion symbol of sophistication? In early 1600, people like Queen Elizabeth I of England and other members of high society transitioned the turtle neck look from a functional design piece of war to a fashion item worn at royal courts. According to this article by Lane Crawford, the turtle neck look was considered “elegant and ultra-feminine in design, and a high neckline that flared outwards with dramatic ruffles became synonymous with status.”
Styling Turtle neck for the holidays
With the holiday season is upon us, I am taking advantage of the chill season to style turtle neck pieces. In today’s post, I am styling two turtle neck dresses, each with a different cut, color, feel and material. I have styled both outfits for the holiday season, pairing the purple dress with black leggings and red heels. I have also added a purple fur purse to pull the look together.
The second look is a turtle neck black knitted dress, which I have opted to wear with black boots and the purple fur purse. One thing I have always thought to be difficult with styling turtle neck is accessorising. Since turtle neck pieces are sophisticated in themselves, my advice is usually to purchase pieces with unique designs or patterns.
I am particularly in love with the cut, texture, and snugness of the purple asymmetric outfit. But for the black look, not so much. I was excited when I purchased the black outfit, but lately, I have gotten bored of it and would most like to give it out.
Another thing that elevated each look was my choice of hair, accessories and pose. I have learned that posture or posing is as much a required skill for elevating a look as the look itself. Posture is a skill I am hoping to master as 2023 comes along.
