One of the most exciting parts of becoming an adult has been discovering Japan, an experience so transformative that I was inspired to write a travel guide to help you understand and experience its magic for yourself. In mid-March, I visited Japan for the second time, this time for a longer stay. The journey only deepened my belief that Japan is truly good for the soul. From the country’s aesthetics and temples to its music and the people you meet, every encounter leaves a lasting impression.

I have created a guide that is uniquely personalized, highlighting what to expect in both tourist hotspots and remote areas across Japan. It includes culinary recommendations and shopping tips, enriched with my personal experiences and insights. You’ll uncover everything from charming hidden gems to essential landmarks, as I share the locations that left a lasting impression on me and why they deserve your attention.

DownloadThere are a few popular spots that have not been included in this e-book—for example, Ginza and Shinjuku. Ginza is renowned as a fashion district, with luxury fashion houses lined up in impressive succession. Shinjuku, on the other hand, is famous for its vibrant nightlife and music scene. In today’s post, I’d like to highlight these areas to provide a more complete picture and balance out what’s missing from the e-book.

ISSEY MIYAKE EXHIBIT GINZA
During my first trip to Japan, I visited the Issey Miyake Cube located in Ginza. For fashion enthusiasts exploring Tokyo, this is a must-see destination. Situated on Gaslight Avenue in Ginza 4-chome, Tokyo, ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA / 445 features multiple brands. The first-floor exhibition space, “CUBE,” regularly hosts exhibitions and events focused on design, arts, and crafts that enrich people’s lives, as well as showcasing Issey Miyake’s creative activities. You can view a variety of exhibits.

Naturally, the appreciation for the art and clothing may tempt you to purchase a piece from Issey Miyake like it did for me—and it’s sure to be worth it.

SHINJUKU NIGHT LIFE
Tokyo is one of the few cities where you’ll find me out at 2:00 a.m., singing and dancing at a local bar. There’s a unique sense of safety and community here that makes exploring the city at night especially enjoyable. If you’re looking for a memorable night out, I recommend checking out King Tokyo or Queen Tokyo—both are open until 5:00 a.m. and always promise a great time.
For an even livelier experience, head to Shinjuku, Tokyo’s legendary nightlife district. Here, the city truly comes alive after dark, offering everything from cozy izakayas and bustling karaoke bars to vibrant nightclubs and live music venues. Shinjuku has something for everyone and the sheer variety and energy of Shinjuku’s makes it an essential stop for anyone wanting to experience Tokyo after hours.
