It is that time of the year again where street style reigns supreme. Fashion week is here again, and as always, it is fascinating to see through the street lens what to look out for the rest of the year and in the coming year. As we all know fashion is cyclical, that means in this lifetime you are sure to see your favorite trend repeat itself at least twice in a space of 10-years.
What that means for a lot of us is, if we hoard things just a little longer, we can revisit them as contemporary fashion pieces again. So, for the most part most part of this year, I have been a keen fashion observer without participating in trends. I have enjoyed the fashion and street looks that are making a comeback this year, including the chunky belt accessories, although not everyone is buying it.

Large Belts
But contrary to the naysayers, I am here for Chunky belts. I am a belt person, and I feel belts are the simplest way of elevating a look. For fashion beginners looking to fit into the quirky side of street fashion, investing in good leather belts is a great entry point.
First, belts are not only affordable, they also come in a variety of colors, they don’t take up a lot of wardrobe space if you hang them, and landing the right one can you apart in a crowd. Standing out in a crowd is what street look is all about. For my outfit today, I am pairing an old chunky belt over a simple Zara black gown to slay in this street look.
I also made sure to go heavy on the accessories, which is not something anyone can associate with my style. But I am learning that being more intentional about other accessories like necklace, earrings and even my bag can be as important as the clothing itself.
As I mentioned in the opening paragraph, I have mostly observed the fashion scene this year, and that is because I am in the process of re-inventing my style again. I know that for the longest time, much of my style has been grounded in vintage clothing, but I am taking a step back to re-explore more concept-themed fashion.
Gearing Up for Street Fashion
If you followed my style in 2016, you would realize that my wardrobe was more experimental, and the outfits I wore were clean cut. I loved that I had the opportunity to collaborate with futuristic designers like Wanger Ayu, styling looks that were designed as concept pieces but also wearable. So right now I am on a balancing act, maintaining my already existing vintage pieces, but making room for my older style.

I am also back to YouTube with a bi-weekly post, and y’all creating a storyline for different social media platforms is an extreme sport- but I enjoy doing it.
