HOW TO START A BLOG: A BEGINNERS GUIDE

I was tagged HERE for tips I’ll love to share about starting a blog. And while I am still a baby in this journey, I’ll just share what I have learned with hope that it helps somebody on their own blogging journey. I also hope others can comment below on what their thoughts are and contribute their own tidbits for readers to learn from.

Decide fully on what you want your blog to be about and what will host it:

It is important your goals are streamlined, that way you wont be overwhelmed with what to write about. Also, it will help you focus on a particular niche despite having a lot of people in that space. It is also imperative that you choose a name that hasn’t been used before and a name relatable to what you do, or a name that is easily searchable. There are so many host to blogs now from Blogger, to WordPress, Medium etc.

Get a reliable means of communicating:

A tablet, a phone, or a laptop can help you work on your blog projects. If you do not have one of these yet, you can always write your ideas down in a book, take them to a cyber cafe, library, or any tech center to share your work.

Create time:

If you decide that you want to start a blog, you must carve out time to write and update readers. Blogging is time consuming and a good blog content can take between 3hours to 3months. Most people who start out on the journey do not realize how time consuming blogging is. I will add that it is not super important in your startup phase to own a domain, try out a free hosting platform, build your skills and learn.

Have supporters who are willing to share information on your page to make others aware:

Because of the influx of bloggers over the years, it is quite difficult for someone starting out to get to be known as fast, or build a fast reading base. However it is possible to do so or will be easier to build following if you content is shared by people to their network.

Create Good Content:

Your blog will only rank high on search engines if the content is great and meaningful. That means your content has to standout. Without meaningful content it wont be long before people begin to loose interest in what you have to get across.

Have an active Social media Platform:

It is important for you to have other social media platforms like, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook. On this platforms share and amplify your blog. By sharing your content on these sites, they automatically translate to views and some become subscribers.

The eyes loves what it loves and part of what the eye loves, is clarity.

Get an interactive template:

Nobody wants to go to a blog where it is difficult to navigate or find content they are looking for. So it is important to have an interactive webpage using tags, categories, menus and submenus to organize your web files- it makes your content easily searchable.

Take good pictures:

The eyes loves what it loves and part of what the eye loves, is clarity. Blurry pictures are a turn off or pictures without great pixel quality don’t make a blog look good. So invest in a good phone camera or a real one and tadaaa….I use a Canon 600D and my iPhone for my pictures.

Collaborate with bloggers:

Collaboration opens up the space for subscibers to view your creative work with others and also allow an audience you might not have gotten to, get a view of your work.

Be Patient:

This is a much needed virtue, because trust me you will not blow at once. It is important to learn contentment at an early beginning stage. Be patient with your journey, as good things take time.

Take time out:

Every once in a while take time out so you don’t get burned out. It is important to take time out; it gives you opportunity to schedule more and better blog post and also give you insight on what next level to take your blog to. As a side not get a blog planner, similar to the one reviewed here..
